Reggie Madison was born in Chicago on the south side in 1941. He has been an artist for 52 years and is self taught in all disciplines. But there was not actually any art in his house as a child. One thing that was a constant in his upbringing was always jazz music. His parents were avid listeners and regulary frequented the Club Delisa in Chicago. The love and respect for jazz music is largely the primary influence and reason of this project being born.
Reggie recalls being a young man and hearing his parents talk about a musician and composer of their day named Herman Blunt. As Reggie matured into a man he discovered the music of Sun Ra who happened to be Herman Blunt….. in his previous life. He found the man’s music and the transition to Sun Ra very interesting. There was the music of course which was great yet it is myth and personae of Sun Ra that is the subject of his latest work. This is the construction of 10 musicians, made of wood, and many salvaged materials. This is a epic project that Mr. Madison has been working on for 3 years. This is a passion project that is a tribute not only to Sun Ra but also to Mr. Madisons parents who instilled the appreciation of jazz music. Unfortunately due to primarily financial reasons the project keeps getting held up. At this current point Reggie is not free to get on with the project in a way that will allow him to have the collection of pieces ready for his premier @ CR10 Contemporary Art Space owned by Francine Hunter McGiverniireg
